 COMMON MASSAGE MODALITIES

                              RELAXATION MASSAGE

Provides basic muscle relaxation, increases circulation and is excellent for stress reduction. This is perhaps the best starting place for a first experience of therapeutic bodywork!

MEDICAL MASSAGE

Is specifically designed to treat muscle pain caused by injury due to accidents, sport related activities or simple over exertion.

                               ACUPRESSURE

Is an ancient oriental technique that focuses on specific "pressure points" within the body's meridians (energy system). By releasing blockages in this system, acupressure can assist the body to relieve numbness, alleviate chronic pain and awaken the healing process.

                   FOOT REFLEXOLOGY

Is similar to acupressure, however, it focuses specifically on the feet. Through a system of reflexes, every major organ in the body can be stimulated to assist in healing.

                        POLARITY AND HEALING TOUCH

Designed to balance the subtle energies in the body, these modalities are especially effective in situations of emotional upset or severe physical trauma where other techniques would be too painful.  Using touch, the human energy system is influenced, specifically the energy that surrounds the body, and the energy centers that control the energy flow from the energy field to the physical body.  These non-invasive techniques utilize the hands to clear, energize, and balance the human and environmental energy fields thus affecting physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual health and healing.  The goal is to restore harmony and balance in the energy system placing the client in a position to heal.

                          CRANIO-SACRAL THERAPY

Cranio-Sacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the function of a physiological
body system called the Cranio-Sacral system - comprised of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. CST was developed by osteopathic physician John E. Upledger, D.O., O.M.M., in the 1970s. It's based on the theories of William Sutherland, D.O. (an osteopath from the early 1900s); Dr. Upledger's research at Michigan State University (1975-83); and extensive clinical application.
Read about CST in Your Inner Physician and You by John E. Upledger, D.O. O.M.M. (in paperback - North Atlantic Books, Berkeley, Calif., and UI Enterprises, Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., 1997).

                      MYOFASCIAL RELEASE
A gentle blend of stretching and massage, myofascial release therapy uses hands-on manipulation of the entire body to promote healing and relieve pain. Just as its name suggests, myofascial comes from the Latin "myo" for muscle and "fascia" for band.  Therapists use the technique to ease pressure in the fibrous bands of connective tissue, or fascia, that encase muscles throughout the body.
Sheaths of this dense and elastic connective tissue weave about blood vessels, bones, and nerves as well, forming an intricate, 3-D web that supports your organs and joints from head to toe and acts as the body's shock absorber.

Scarring or injury to this network of connective tissue is often a major cause of pain and impeded motion. The therapy's easy stretches aim to alleviate these problems by breaking up, or releasing, constrictions or snags in the fascia. People with longstanding back pain, fibromyalgia, recurring headaches, sports injuries, and a host of additional complaints are all said to benefit from the technique.

                                                 PREGNANCY MASSAGE
Assists the mother-to-be in relaxing her muscles, tissues and organs and is designed to include postpartum. A satisfying experience for both mother and baby!

                 MANUAL LYMPH DRAINAGE

A safe, effective, yet gentle approach to cleansing the body's tissues.  MLD drains excess fluid from the tissues and also has a detoxifying effect.  It can benefit a healthy person as well as be applied to more than 60 different conditions.

                            LYMPHEDEMA
Lymphedema is a swelling of a body part, most often an extremity, resulting from an accumulation of fluids, in such proportions to be palpable and visible.  Lymphedema occurs when the lymph vascular system is not able to fill its function of reabsorption and transportation of the protein and lymph load.  Lymphedema occurs whenever lymphatic vessels are absent, underdeveloped, obstructed, or damaged.
